Grave Sucking / Mantle Grabbing

Students of the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry visit the graves of people who are deemed to have had a special anointing. The graves, among others, belong to the following people:

She says: “Things I do”

They say that the Holy Spirit still dwells in the grave of those people.

Even Charismamag, a charismatic magazine as its name makes clear, condemns such practices.[1]

Not only do Bethel students practice “grave sucking,” but also Beni Johnson. Bill Johnson also appreciates visiting graves, as can be seen in the above picture of him by Smith Wigglesworth’s grave. The same grave is seen in this video by Bethel students:

Here is something that Bill Johnson wrote that can help us understand the basis for these practices:

UNCLAIMED MANTLES

There are anointings, mantles, revelations and mysteries that have lain unclaimed, literally where they were left, because the generation that walked in them never passed them on. I believe it’s possible for us to recover realms of anointing, realms of insight, realms of God that have been untended for decades simply by choosing to reclaim them and perpetuate them for future generations. (Davis, 2012)  The Physics of Heaven – Bill Johnson

TRUTH SHOULD ALWAYS MOVE FORWARD

When truth came to the early Church, it was to increase and be passed to the next generation. It was only meant to go in forward motion, yet that didn’t happen. But we have an opportunity in this generation to grab the concept of spiritual inheritance and see, for the first time in church history, what it looks like. We have the opportunity to lay ourselves down for a generation we’ll never see, so they can build on our ceiling and take it to places in God we never had time to go.

Let’s look at Luke 11:24-26:

When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, “I will return to my house from which I came.” And when he comes, he finds it swept and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

This sounds like a strange passage to throw in with the concept of spiritual inheritance. But there is a principle of the Kingdom in this passage that is vital for us to understand and that principle is this: We have the opportunity to recover lost wealth of prior generations that was, for whatever reason, disregarded. (Davis, 2012) The Physics of Heaven – Bill Johnson

This seems to be an odd passage to use in the context of spiritual inheritance. But it highlights a kingdom principle that is vital for us to grasp: “we have the opportunity to recover lost wealth of prior generations that was, for whatever reason, disregarded” (Davis, 2012) – The Physics of Heaven – quote by Bill Johnson

Here is  John Crowder (see the article about him) that details the practice of “grave sucking” as well.
